Hand surgery comes in numerous forms. Restoring hand and finger function is the goal of hand surgery performed by plastic surgeons. However, they also attempt to maintain the hand's most natural appearance. In a skin graft, a missing portion of the hand's skin is replaced or attached. The most common reasons for this operation are injuries or amputations of the fingertip. An intact skin fragment is extracted from a different region of the body, referred to as the donor site, and adhered to the damaged area. A skin flap is created by removing skin from another area of the body, just as a skin transplant. However, the skin used in this surgery has its own blood supply. This is so because the muscles, fat, and blood vessels are all present in the skin's used area. In situations when a region without skin has poor blood flow, flaps may be utilized. This could be due to the extent of tissue injury, the location, or damage to the vasculature.
